According to sources who spoke to Canada’s Globe and Mail and the Reuters news agency, the 53-year-old could declare his resignation as head of the country’s ruling Liberal Party as early as today.
However, according to Reuters, no decision has been taken regarding the resignation; however, sources anticipate a statement prior to Wednesday’s emergency gathering of Liberal politicians.
It’s still unclear if Mr. Trudeau will resign as prime minister right now or wait for a new Liberal leader to be chosen.
Since 2013, Mr. Trudeau has been the party’s leader, and since 2015, he has served as prime minister.
