Former Chelsea and Arsenal defender David Luiz is facing allegations in Brazil that he sent threatening messages to a social worker after she rejected his request for a threesome. A court has issued a restraining order against the 38-year-old footballer to protect 26-year-old Francisca Karollainy Barbosa Cavalcante.
Cavalcante told police she received a series of intimidating Instagram messages after her alleged affair with Luiz ended. According to her, the dispute began when she refused to take part in a threesome. She claims Luiz warned her about his “money and power” and even threatened her young son, with one message allegedly stating: “I can simply make you disappear.”
Screenshots of the alleged messages were handed over to police. Cavalcante also claimed Luiz offered her £14,000 to withdraw her accusations, but she refused. After going public, she says she felt unsafe, was being watched, and had to change hotels multiple times.
Her lawyer, Fabiano Tavora, told local media that Luiz paid for her hotel stays in Fortaleza, where the two first met after he reached out to her online.
Less than 24 hours after Cavalcante filed a report, authorities granted her a restraining order.
Luiz, who currently plays for Cypriot club Pafos and is engaged to long-time partner Bruna Loureiro, has strongly denied the claims. He admitted messaging Cavalcante on Instagram but insists he never met her in person or sent threats.
“I never threatened anyone, I never threatened this person. I was never with this person physically. I was never at the hotel they say I was at,” Luiz said in a statement. His communications team confirmed legal measures are being pursued in response to the allegations.
Luiz is best known for his time in the Premier League, where he won the Champions League, Europa League, and FA Cup with Chelsea, and also played two seasons with Arsenal.
