Pope Francis’ funeral will be held at 10 a.m. local time (4 a.m. ET) on Saturday, the Vatican said.
The funeral will be held in St. Peter’s Square, the piazza outside the Vatican’s main basilica.
Previous papal funerals have also been held outside, with thousands of mourners filling St. Peter’s Square.
Francis’ funeral Liturgy will be presided over by Cardinal Giovanni Battista, Dean of the College of Cardinals, the Vatican said.
At the end of the eucharist, there will be a final Commendation and Valediction, before Francis’ coffin is taken inside St. Peter’s Basilica for the remainder of the service.
After that, Francis’ body will be taken to Rome’s Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore for burial.
