President Bola Tinubu bestowed the National honor of Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic (CFR) upon Bill Gates, the co-chair of the Gates Foundation.
On Tuesday, June 3, the president conferred the honor upon Gates in Lagos, an event attended by prominent government officials such as Ali Pate, the coordinating minister of health and social welfare, and Aliko Dangote, the president of the Dangote Group, among others.
The award recognizes Gates’ significant contributions to global health, education, and poverty alleviation, including strategic partnerships with Nigeria.
Gates’ visit to Nigeria aims to facilitate discussions on reforms in the country’s primary healthcare system with President Tinubu and other senior officials.
Additionally, he will participate in a Goalkeepers Nigeria event focused on Africa’s innovation future. During this event, he will meet with local scientists and partners who are instrumental in shaping the country’s national strategy on artificial intelligence (AI) and scaling up health solutions.
Gates’ visit comes after the foundation announced its commitment to investing $200 billion over the next 20 years to advance progress in saving and improving lives, particularly in Africa.
