Ahmedabad air crash: Black box of Air India flight recovered; found on hostel rooftop
In a significant development, authorities discovered the black box of Air India’s Ahmedabad-London flight on Friday, a day after the aircraft crashed within minutes of takeoff, resulting in the tragic loss of 241 out of the 242 passengers onboard.
The device was found on a “rooftop,” likely that of the hostel building located in Meghaninagar, Ahmedabad. Tragically, the ill-fated flight had collided with the hostel mess shortly after takeoff.
“The black box was found on the rooftop,” the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) said.

The black box, a critical piece of evidence which has been found, would be analysed to determine the cause of the tragic Air India crash, the victims of which included Gujarat’s former chief minister, Vijay Rupani.
The AAIB has launched a full-scale probe into the mishap, with over 40 staff from the Gujarat government joining efforts to support the ministry of civil aviation (MoCA) teams on the ground.
The flight had 230 passengers, two pilots, and 10 cabin crew. The passengers included 169 Indians, 53 Britons, seven Portuguese nationals, and a Canadian. There was only one survivor – a British-Indian man who was on seat 11A of the aircraft, a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner.
