Arsenal are set to sign Eberechi Eze from Crystal Palace in a deal worth more than £60 million, beating rivals Tottenham Hotspur to the 27-year-old midfielder.
Spurs had been favourites to secure Eze, but Arsenal accelerated talks after Kai Havertz sustained a knee injury in Sunday’s win over Manchester United. The Gunners have reached an agreement in principle with Palace for a fee close to Eze’s £68m release clause.
Eze, released by Arsenal as a teenager, now appears on course for a return to the Emirates.
Palace manager Oliver Glasner said both Eze and captain Marc Guehi remain committed ahead of the club’s Europa Conference League play-off against Fredrikstad.
“They are committed to the team, they have a contract here, and they have been crucial to our success,” Glasner said. “Until the day they leave, they will continue to give 100 percent for Crystal Palace.”
Eze’s contract runs until 2027, but his form has drawn interest from several top clubs.
