The bodies of Diogo Jota and his brother, André Silva, have arrived at a church in Portugal in preparation for their funeral.

Early this morning, mourners will gather at a wake in Gondomar to pay their respects. Jota, 28, and his sibling tragically lost their lives in a fiery crash on Thursday, July 3.

Jose Manuel Macedo, the local parish priest, announced that the wake will be held at 8 a.m. at the nearby Capela de Ressurreicao. Their funeral will be held at the Igreja Matriz, the Catholic church next door, on Saturday morning at 10 a.m.

Macedo expressed their willingness to celebrate the life of the deceased with everyone and to share the pain and Christian hope they are experiencing.

Jota’s Lamborghini Huracan’s tire blew out while overtaking another vehicle on the A-52 near Cernadilla, near Zamora. This incident occurred just ten miles over the border from Portugal. The supercar veered off the road, rolled, and caught fire.

The crash, which happened around 12:35 a.m., also ignited the surrounding vegetation. Emergency services responded, but unfortunately, the brothers could not be saved.

Jota and his 26-year-old brother Andre were reportedly on a road trip to Santander to catch a ferry to Britain. This decision was made after Jota was advised against flying due to his recent lung surgery.

Tragically, Spanish government official Angel Blanco announced that the siblings had passed away at the scene.

The wake for Jota will be held this morning, just a half-hour drive from his hometown of Porto, northern Portugal. Just two weeks ago, Jota, who was 28 at the time, married his childhood sweetheart, Rute Cardoso, in a ceremony attended by a close-knit group of family and friends.
