Authorities report the shot likely came from a rooftop about 200 yards away. A federal investigation is underway, involving the FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives. The university closed its campus shortly after.
His death prompted an outpouring of reaction from across the political spectrum. Former President Donald Trump, a close ally of Kirk, posted on Truth Social that “we must pray” for him.
Kirk’s career spanned campus organizing, podcasting, and youth-oriented conservative media. His shooting has raised sharp concern about political violence in the U.S., especially on college campuses.
