Elon Musk says he now ‘regrets’ some of his social media posts about Trump

A reunion between the world’s richest man and the most powerful may not be imminent, but at least one of them has expressed regret for their strained relationship.

Elon Musk, on X in the early hours of Wednesday, acknowledged that he regretted some of the barbs he posted during their social media exchanges with President Donald Trump. He stated that they had “gone too far.”

Musk didn’t elaborate on which posts from last week he regretted or explain the sudden change of heart in his 3 a.m. ET message.

At the peak of their online feud, which was sparked by landmark spending legislation that Trump called the “big, beautiful bill,” Musk claimed that the president wouldn’t have won the election without him and accused him of undermining the efforts of DOGE in cutting billions from federal budgets.

Musk referred to the bill as a “disgusting abomination” that would lead the U.S. to unsustainable debt.

On Saturday, Trump made it clear his disappointment with his former ally, suggesting that the U.S. government could sever its lucrative ties with Musk’s businesses. This prompted the angry Tesla founder to draw attention to the president’s past connections with the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

In response to a suggestion from an X user that Trump should be impeached, Musk replied with a simple “Yes.”

In an interview with NBC News on Saturday, Trump stated that there would be unspecified “serious consequences” for Musk if he financially supports any Democrat candidates in future elections who oppose the government’s sweeping budget bill.
