U.S. judge Frank Caprio, whose courtroom empathy made him a global viral figure, has died at 88 after a battle with pancreatic cancer.
Caprio, long a fixture in Rhode Island’s municipal court, gained worldwide fame when clips of his rulings circulated online, highlighting his leniency and compassion.
Hours before his death, Caprio posted on Instagram thanking supporters for their prayers, saying he had suffered a setback and was back in the hospital.
