Over 70 Supercars Worth £7 Million Seized in London Crackdown
Police across London have seized more than 70 supercars worth a combined £7 million, including two rare purple Lamborghinis, several Ferraris, and Porsches.
The weekend-long operation, led by the Met Police and supported by the Motor Insurers’ Bureau (MIB), saw 72 high-value vehicles impounded across areas such as Hyde Park, Kensington, and Chelsea. The crackdown targeted uninsured drivers and responded to complaints about dangerous and anti-social driving in some of the capital’s wealthiest districts.
In one case, the MIB revealed that a Lamborghini driver had been in the UK for just two hours and behind the wheel for only 15 minutes before police seized the car.
Up to 75 Met Police officers took part, using Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR), predictive movement tracking, and vehicle markers to identify and stop offenders.
Special Chief Officer James Deller said the operation was in direct response to concerns from residents, businesses, and visitors about supercars causing a nuisance in central and west London.
Martin Saunders, Head of Uninsured Driving Prevention at the MIB, urged drivers to double-check their insurance policies to avoid costly mistakes.
“While some offenders knowingly broke the law, others lost cover through simple errors such as bounced payments, failed renewals, or incorrect details,” he said.
