Vice President Kashim Shettima on Monday paid a condolence visit to Aisha Buhari, widow of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, and members of the Buhari family in London.
Shettima also stopped by a London hospital to visit Buhari’s nephew, Mamman Daura, who is currently recovering.
According to a statement from Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the Vice President on Media and Communication, the visits took place while Shettima awaited the final documentation for the repatriation of Buhari’s body to Nigeria.
Shettima was accompanied by Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila; Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum; Foreign Affairs Minister Yusuf Tuggar; and Deputy Chief of Staff Ibrahim Hadejia.
The delegation arrived in London early Monday morning following President Bola Tinubu’s directive, issued after Buhari’s death on Sunday at about 4:30 pm in a London clinic.
President Tinubu has since ordered national flags flown at half-staff in honor of the former president, who served from 2015 to 2023 after previously ruling as military head of state between 1984 and 1985.
Buhari’s remains will be flown back to Nigeria and buried in his hometown of Daura on Tuesday, in accordance with Islamic rites.
