Trump defends Joe Biden amid cancer diagnosis, accuses the former president’s team of treason
US Leader, Donald Trump has launched a scathing attack on the previous Joe Biden administration, accusing its handlers of committing treason by implementing open border policies that he claims nearly destroyed the country.
Trump, known for his hardline immigration stance, has been vocal about implementing the largest mass deportation effort in U.S. history. Throughout his campaign, he repeatedly criticized Biden for failing to secure the nation’s borders.
However, in an unexpected shift, Trump recently extended some grace to the former president, especially after Biden revealed a diagnosis of late-stage prostate cancer and questions swirled around his cognitive capacity.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump said, “The Joe Biden that everybody knew would never allow drug dealers, gang members, and the mentally insane to come into our Country totally unchecked and unvetted. Joe Biden was not for Open Borders, he never talked about Open Borders.”
He continued, “It was not his idea to open the border and almost destroy our country. It was the people that knew he was cognitively impaired, and that took over the autopen. They stole the presidency and put us in great danger. This is treason at the highest level!
Trump emphasized that the responsibility lies not with Biden himself, but with those who, aware of his limitations, ‘made critical decisions on his behalf.’ He said the consequences of those decisions have cost the country “hundreds of billions of dollars” and called for “very severe” punishment for “those involved.”
“Something very severe should happen to these treasonous thugs that wanted to destroy our country, but couldn’t, because I came along,” Trump declared.
Congressman James Comer, Chair of the Government Reform Committee, said earlier this week that he attempted to subpoena key Biden aides—Annie Tomasini, Anthony Bernal, and Ashley Williams regarding the use of autopen during Biden’s administration. He claimed the White House blocked those efforts.
While Trump has not named specific individuals, an investigation by the conservative Oversight Project revealed Biden frequently used autopen to sign important documents. The organization posted on X: “WHOEVER CONTROLLED THE AUTOPEN CONTROLLED THE PRESIDENCY.”
This isn’t the first time Trump has spoken kindly of Biden. In 2020, he described Biden as “a very nice man,” and after surviving an assassination attempt in 2024, Trump revealed Biden had called him personally, saying, “He couldn’t have been nicer.”
Since returning to office, Trump has wasted no time implementing immigration reforms. On his first day, he declared a national emergency at the southern border and began efforts to deter illegal entry. He previously criticized Biden’s approach as “Biden’s invasion,” accusing him of enabling mass illegal migration.
In one controversial Biden-era policy, migrants could use a smartphone app, CBP One, to schedule asylum appointments at border crossings. Another program allowed 30,000 people each month from countries like Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela to legally enter the U.S. if they had sponsors and met certain requirements.
Trump pledged to terminate both programs, claiming doing so would remove over one million migrants from the U.S.
The recent scrutiny over Biden’s use of autopen and his medical condition has reignited political tensions. Although Trump initially offered condolences upon news of Biden’s cancer diagnosis, he soon questioned how long the administration had known about the illness.
“It takes a long time to get to that situation… I’m surprised the public wasn’t notified a long time ago,” Trump said. “Someone is going to have to speak to his doctor.”
Biden’s cancer is rated 9 on the Gleason scale, indicating an extremely aggressive form of prostate cancer at stage 4. The disease has already spread to his bones. A White House spokesperson said Biden only became aware of the diagnosis last week, after an abnormal nodule was found. The spokesperson also confirmed Biden had not undergone prostate screenings since 2014.
Concerns about Biden’s cognitive health have persisted throughout his presidency, with several public incidents fueling speculation about his mental acuity.
