Uber rolls out new feature that allows riders to choose women-only drivers

Uber has introduced a new feature that enables women to request female drivers. While some may perceive this as discriminatory towards men, Uber presents it as a safety enhancement.

The company has officially announced the new feature on its website under the category “women preferences.” It will be available starting in August.

Female riders will have the option to request female drivers, while female drivers can choose to request same-gender riders.

Uber aims to enhance safety for women using its rideshare platform.

This feature was initially tested in various markets and will now be rolled out to Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Detroit.

Uber introduced the “Women Rider Preference” in 2019, following Saudi Arabia’s decision to grant women the right to drive. Since then, the safety measure has been implemented in 40 countries.

Camiel Irving, Uber’s vice president of operations for the U.S. and Canada, expressed the company’s intention in a statement, stating that the goal is to empower women with greater choice, control, and comfort during both rides and driving.
